BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's volleyball team was swept by the Shorter Hawks on Saturday afternoon.
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: King 0, Shorter 3 (23-25, 19-25, 18-25)
LOCATION: Student Center Complex, Bristol, Tennessee
RECORDS: King (4-5, 2-3 Conference Carolinas); Shorter (7-7, 2-1 Conference Carolinas)
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- The two teams kept the match close as neither could keep more than a two point lead until Shorter got a kill from Victoria Sparks forcing King to take a timeout.
- Out of the timeout, the Hawks had the momentum but King rallied for three in a row with kills from Capri Johnson, Riley Nelson, and Izzy Krick to tie the match at 18.
- While the score was again tied at 23, Shorter scored the final two points to take the first set. However, Gracia Love tallied 6 of her 7 total kills in the opening set.
Second Set
- While the Tornado scored the first point of the second set, Shorter then scored 4 in a row to take the lead.
- King would trail until a kill from Chloe Clayton, an ace from Faith Morse, and a couple of Shorter attack errors brought King back into the lead.
- The teams traded points until the Hawks found a few points and took a 16-12 lead into a King timeout.
- Aces from Gabri Puertas and Morse highlighted the second half of the match for King as they fell 19-25.
Third Set
- The final set mirrored the beginning of the opening set with neither team earning more than a three point lead until about halfway through when Shorter earned a four-point lead at 18-14.
- Out of the timeout, Clayton had two kills and Morse tacked on another ace before the Hawks won the match with a 25-18 set three score.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- Princess Emma Oluwa led the team with 8 kills and 17 digs.
- Faith Morse had a match high 3 aces, brining her season total to 11.
- Kylie Love added 17 assists to her season campaign, leading the team with 181 total.
FOR THE FOES
- Emily Crocker had a match-high 10 kills and Claudia Loyola had a team-high 15 digs.
- The defensive front line for the Hawks tallied 10 blocks.
