BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's volleyball team earned their first home victory defeating Southern Wesleyan 3-1 on Friday night.
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: King 3, Southern Wesleyan 1 (25-18, 18-25, 25-14, 25-18)

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- King earned the first point with a block by Zephanie Snyder and Riley Nelson.
- Both teams kept it close as neither team had more than a three point lead until Chloe Clayton had a service ace to make it 12-9 and force the Warriors to take a timeout.
- Out of the timeout, the Tornado took control of the game, scoring six points in a row. In that span, Princess Emma Oluwa had back to back service aces.
- Clayton closed the set with a kill so that King won the opening set 25-18.
Second Set
- King took an early 5-1 lead to start the set, and would keep the lead until Southern Wesleyan took the lead at 15-14.
- The Warriors would maintain their lead after the King timeout at 14-14.
Third Set
- The third set had a dominate start for the Tornado as they jumped out to a 14-4 lead.
- The Tornado would continue the lead as they went on to win the third set 25-14 as Southern Wesleyan had three straight attack errors to close the set.
- Riley Nelson and Princess Emma Oluwa both had 4 kills. Oluwa and Faith Morse both recorded 5 digs in the set, and Gabri Puertas added 4 as well.
Fourth Set
- It was a back and forth battle as King went for the match win and Southern Wesleyan wanted to battle to a fifth set. Neither team had more than a three point lead until the Tornado took a 19-15 lead late in the set.
- Gracia Love had three kills in a four point span and a total of 8 in the final set as King won the set and the match 25-18.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- Princess Emma Oluwa led the offense with 12 kills. Capri Johnson and Gracia Love added 11 and 10 respectively on the front line. Love had 8 of her kills in the final set.
- Gabri Puertas had a match-high 18 digs and 4 service aces. Oluwa added 17 digs to have a double-double evening.
- Johnson recorded 2 solo blocks while Riley Nelson had 4 block assists.
- Kylie Love had 30 assists to help the offense.
FOR THE FOES
- Megan Gilliland led the Warrior offense with 9 kills.
- Faith Paxton had 14 digs. On the front lines, Angel Jimenez, Karson Haley, and Gracie Wilson each recorded 3 block assists
- Amiyah Spann had two aces.
