BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – The King University women's soccer team used a pair of second-half goals from
Mackenzie Winters to post their first win of the season on Wednesday night. King netted three tallies in the second frame to take a 3-1 road win at Bluefield State University.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The opening 45 minutes was defensive with Bluefield State taking three more shots than the Tornado.
- The Big Blue took three of their eight shots in the opening 15 minutes, the third being saved by King goalkeeper Kristal Garcia.
- Taylor Stubbs had the first shot on frame for the Tornado in the 16th minute, but it was turned away.
- Stubbs got behind the defense in the 29th minute, but her shot was deflected wide of the goal by the goalkeeper.
- Michelle White then had an opportunity off the ensuing corner kick, but it was saved by the goalkeeper.
- Bluefield State took three shots in the final five minutes, one turned away by Garcia to keep the contest scoreless at the break.
- Izzy Clark had a shot on target in the 52nd minute before the next scoring opportunity for the Tornado broke the scoreless tie.
- Brianna Sabatino laced a shot that was saved, but it went right to Winters who slid the ball into the open net to give King the 1-0 lead.
- The advantage was short-lived, however, as the Big Blue netted the equalizer in the 63rd minute on a shot that went just inside the right post.
- Garcia came up with saves for the Tornado in the 69th and 72nd minutes to keep the game even at 1-1.
- Winters narrowly missed in the 79th minute as she got behind the defense, but her shot sailed left of the goal.
- Following the ensuing goal kick, Clark corralled a bounding ball at midfield and sent it forward to Winters, who again found herself behind the defense.
- This time her shot beat the goalkeeper low and inside the left post to give King the 2-1 lead.
- Stubbs added another for the Tornado in the 89th minute as Maggie Danroth found Ella Froehlich who sent a pass to Stubbs in the middle of the field.
- Stubbs then rolled her shot past a diving goalkeeper inside the left post to give King the 3-1 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The shots ended up even at 16 with King placed 10 shots on target.
- Garcia made six saves to earn the win in goal for the Tornado.
- King also earned four corner kicks in the contest.
FOR THE FOES
- Bluefield State placed seven of their 16 shots on frame and earned four corner kicks.
- Rylee Truslow made seven saves in goal for the Big Blue.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- For Winters this marks her first career multi-goal game as she found the back of the net for the first time since 2021. Winters now has five career goals.
- The goal for Stubbs is her second of the season.
- The assists for Froehlich and Clark are the first of their careers while Sabatino and Danroth posted their second career assists.
