Jessica Campbell and
Savana Luper of the King University softball team were named the Conference Carolinas Player and Pitcher of the Week Tuesday afternoon.
Campbell, a junior from Graysville, Tenn., batted .500 last week, with two home runs, 11 RBI, a triple and a double while also stealing three bases. The highlight of the week came in the first game of a Conference Carolinas doubleheader against Belmont Abbey, where she went 2-for-4, with a home run and four RBI in a run-rule victory. Currently, she has an active 12-game hitting streak
Luper, a freshman from Salem, Va., made two starts for the Tornado, with a record of 2-0 and en ERA of 0.54. She threw a total of 13 innings, with 14 strikeouts and a batting average against of .111. She threw a complete game against Southern Wesleyan University, finishing with no earned runs on three hits with nine strikeouts before tossing a six-inning complete game Saturday against Belmont Abbey College, allowing one earned run on two hits with five strikeouts.
The Tornado will be back on the field Wednesday, when they kick off an eight-game road trip with a nonconference contest at Lee University. First pitch from Cleveland, Tenn. is set for 3:00 p.m.
