BRISTOL, Tenn. --
Savana Luper of the King University softball team has been named the Tennessee Sports Writer's Association Softball Pitcher of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday morning.
Luper, a freshman from Salem, Va., made two starts for the Tornado, with a record of 2-0 and en ERA of 0.54. She threw a total of 13 innings, with 14 strikeouts and a batting average against of .111. She threw a complete game against Southern Wesleyan University, finishing with no earned runs on three hits with nine strikeouts before tossing a six-inning complete game Saturday against Belmont Abbey College, allowing one earned run on two hits with five strikeouts.
On the season, Luper is 9-1, with an ERA of 2.04. She has throws a team-high 61.2 innings, with 56 strikeouts, four complete games and two saves, with a batting average against of .221. This is the first TSWA honor of her Tornado career.Â
The Tornado will be back on the field Wednesday, when they kick off an eight-game road trip with a nonconference contest at Lee University. First pitch from Cleveland, Tenn. is set for 3:00 p.m.
