Tornado open season at Glenville State Invite

GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The King University men's wrestling team had five placewinners Saturday at the season-opening Glenville State Invitational, led by a runner-up finish by Bo Perkins and third-place finishes by Vincent Galang and Clint Morrisette.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After receiving a opening round bye, Perkins won his first match of the day 7-4 before winning a 5-2 sudden victory decision, advancing to the finals where he dropped a 11-2 major decision to Bailey Gimbor of Kutztown, taking 2nd.
  • Franky Medina placed third, dropping just one match on the day. He won his first round bout via 21-4 tech fall before losing a 14-8 decision. He then rattled off four straight wins, including a 15-13 decision over Seton Hill's Kyle Burkholder in the third-place match.
  • Galang also won his first match, pinning Emmanuel's Michael Turner in just 1:34. After dropping a 4-1 decision in the quarterfinal, he won the final four matches of the day, including a 3-2 win over Roman Moser of Kutztown in the third-place match.
  • No. 7 Trent Mahoney placed sixth, winning both of his first two matches via pin before dropping an 18-6 major decision in the quarterfinals. He then pinned Elijah Brown in 1:16 before taking a 16-5 major decision victory. After dropping his consolation semifinal match via 7-2 decision, he won the fifth-place match via forfeit.
  • Ashtan Hendricks placed sixth in his Tornado debut, winning his first match via pin before losing a tech fall in round two. He then received a bye before rattling off three wins via fall, including a 31-second pin of Aidan Micheli of Millersville. He dropped both of his final matches of the day, placing sixth.
  • At 184 pounds, Morrisette placed third. After starting with a pin of Tyler Hurst of Millersville, he dropped a wild 13-10 overtime decision, which would be his only loss of the day. He proceeded to win four straight, all by bonus points. He capped off his day with a 17-1 tech fall victory over Riley O'Mara of Seton Hill.

  • The Tornado will compete in their first Conference Carolinas dual of the season Wednesday night when they host Belmont Abbey College. The match is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start time inside the Student Center Complex.
