EMORY, Va. – The King University women's volleyball team traveled up I-81 to take on Emory & Henry College on Saturday afternoon. The Tornado dropped the opening set, but responded by taking the next three sets for the 3-1 victory.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- The Wasps got off to a hot start, taking an 11-5 lead before King scored three straight points.
- King held the deficit there, but couldn't get any closer as Emory & Henry scored the final two points to take the set 25-21.
Second Set
- King seemed to settle things down in the second set, using a 5-1 run to break a 6-6 tie and take an 11-7 lead.
- Katie Harless and Abigail Belcher started the spurt with a block before Belcher added a solo stuff and Julie Danner capped the run with a kill.
- Danner then posted a pair of kills and Zephanie Snyder added a termination on a 4-0 run that gave King a 15-10 lead.
- In all, the Tornado went on a 7-1 spurt, opening up an 18-11 advantage.
- King closed the set on a 4-1 run as Danner posted three kills and Gabri Puertas served up an ace as King took the 25-18.
Third Set
- King turned a 9-5 deficit into an 11-10 lead with a 6-1 run before scoring three straight to take a 14-12 lead.
- Danner had two kills while Katie Harless and Hailee Blankenship added terminations on the spurt.
- King then put the set out of reach with a 7-0 run that vaulted the Tornado in to a 21-13 lead. In all, King scored 16 of 20 points.
- Blankenship had a pair of kills on the run while Belcher and Blankenship teamed up for two blocks.
- The Tornado scored four of the final five points, including the final two, taking the set 25-17.
Fourth Set
- King scored the first three points and opened up a 7-3 lead following a Chloe Clayton service ace.
- The Tornado held a four-point advantage throughout the set before scoring six straight to take a 23-14 lead.
- King then scored two of the final three points to take the set 25-16 and the match 3-1.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Danner led King with 17 kills while Blankenship followed with 14 kills and nine digs.
- Harless handed out 38 assists and added a team-high 19 digs for the double-double.
- Puertas posted 14 digs while Belcher added six blocks, including two solo stuffs.
FOR THE FOES
- Julissa Hopgood led the way with 12 kills while Brianna Hogan and Camden Jones chipped in with nine kills each.
- Payton Rolfsen handed out 19 assists and added 12 digs.
- Libby Bicklhaupt accounted for 12 digs.
UP NEXT
- King opens Conference Carolinas play on Wednesday at Erskine College. First serve from Due West, S.C. is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
- Emory & Henry is in action again on Friday at Lincoln Memorial University.
