DUE WEST, S.C. – The King University women's volleyball team got their Conference Carolinas schedule started on the right foot Wednesday night, topping the Erskine College Flying Fleet 3-1.
THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- It was back-and-forth in the first set, with neither team able to take a lead larger then three points.
- After falling behind 14-11, the Tornado picked up a kill from Abigale Jayne and an attack error from the Flying Fleet to get to within 14-13.
- Coming out of a timeout, the Tornado went from trailing 20-17, to leading 21-20, with Hailee Blankenship and Julie Danner recording a pair of kills.
- The Tornado would eventually take a 22-21 lead, but Erskine scored four of the final five points to take the set, 25-23.
Second Set
- King dominated early, racing out to an early 6-1 lead.
- After the Flying Fleet got to within 7-4, King went on a large scoring run, stretching the lead to 20-8 on a kill by Danner.
- Erskine would score eight of the next 11 points to get to within 23-16.
- Katie Harless picked up a kill to give King set point, which they converted when Harless fed Danner for yet another kill, winning the set 25-16.
Third Set
- King started right where they left off in the previous set, taking an early 8-2 lead, with Blankenship recording three kills to start the set.
- Erskine was able to keep the score close, getting to within 11-8 before the Tornado started to pull away.
- The Tornado stretched the lead to 15-9, forcing an Erskine timeout.
- Coming out of the timeout, King scored three of the next five points to extend their advantage to 18-11.
- After a Jayne kill got King to 23-12 and an attack error put them on set point, Erskine scored a point to extend the set, with King winning 25-12 on a Jersey Wines kill.
Fourth Set
- Similar to the first set, things started with both teams playing each other close, with King finally opening up a 10-6 lead.
- After the Flying Fleet got to within 14-13, King pulled away, scoring eight consecutive points to go up 22-13.
- Abigail Belcher picked up a kill to make the score 23-14, before Harless recorded a kill to give King match point, 24-14.
- After a service error gave Erskine a point, Bailey Fersner came up with a match-ending kill, handing King a 25-15 set win, and a 3-1 match win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Danner finished the match with 14 kills, while Blankenship posted a double-double, with 13 kills and 18 digs.
- Belcher had four block assists on the match, along with five kills.
FOR THE FOES
- Meredith Hollinger had a standout match for the Flying Fleet, finishing with 15 kills and 16 digs, along with a pair of service aces.
- Grace Schneider had 12 digs as well as seven kills and a service ace.
UP NEXT
- The Tornado are on the road Friday night, taking on Lees-McRae before taking on Southern Wesleyan Saturday inside the Student Center.
- Erskine is on the road for their next two matches, starting Friday against Francis Marion.
