NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The King University women's volleyball team dropped their final game of the weekend Saturday afternoon, falling to Carson-Newman University 3-0 to close out the Ray Thresher Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- King controlled the set early, taking a quick 4-1 lead after a kill from Gracia Love, with Chloe Clayton and Kara Miller adding a block as well.
- The Eagles eventually fought back to tie the set at 10 before taking a 11-10 lead.
- The Tornado were down 24-22 late when an attack error got them to within one.
- Kylee Coggins came up with a service ace to tie the set at 24.
- King had a 27-26 lead when the Eagles went on a 3-0 run to take the first set, 29-27.
Second Set
- Carson-Newman had control of the second set, taking a 16-5 lead.
- After the lead got to 24-9, the Tornado went on a short run, scoring three straight points off Carson-Newman attack errors to make the score 24-12.
- The Eagles were able to close things out, winning the set 25-12.
Third Set
- The Tornado opened the third set by racing out to a 5-3 lead, with Clayton recording a pair of kills.
- Back-to-back kills from Katie Harless and Hailee Blankenship gave the Tornado a 12-5 lead.
- After the Eagles got to within 17-16, the Tornado scored three consecutive points, including back-to-back service aces from Blankenship to take a 20-16 advantage.
- King would eventually hold a 23-22 lead, but the Eagles scored the final three points to win the set 25-23, and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Love finished with eight kills and five digs, while Blankenship had seven kills and eight digs.
- Clayton and Riley Nelson both finished with three blocks, with Nelson adding three kills.
- Harless had 17 set assists and a pair of blocks on the afternoon.
FOR THE FOES
- Julia Wheeler led all players in kills with 17, while also picking up eight digs.
- Carlee Allbaugh dished out 19 assists, while Abigail Hildenbrand had 18.
UP NEXT
- The Tornado will open their home slate Tuesday night, when they host Emory & Henry College in a nonconference showdown.
- Carson-Newman will take on Christian Brothers Saturday night before opening South Atlantic Conference action next week.
