BRISTOL, Tenn. – King University head women's wrestling coach
Jason Moorman announced the hire of alum
Amanda Hendey '15 as an assistant coach.
"Finding the right assistant coach is so crucial to any athletics program, and we have certainly done that with Amanda," Moorman said. "Not only is she an alum, her experience and wealth of knowledge in this sport is going to immediately contribute in a big way. Throughout our conversations over the past year, I could see how much she also understands the value of cultivating character which is one of the foundations of our program and culture. We are ecstatic to have her back at King and can't wait to get to work."
Hendey joins the Tornado following a season as an assistant coach at Colorado Mesa University. While there, the Mavericks finished fifth at the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Coalition (NCWWC) National Championships with six All-Americans.
"I'm excited to be a Tornado once again," Hendey said. "The program has a strong lineage, and I will be proud to contribute to the legacy, culture, and future of my alma mater in a new way. Jason [Moorman] is one of the best coaches in the sport and I look forward to working with him and learning from him as a coach now. I'm eager to get to know the athletes and help them be successful on and off the mat. It's going to be a great season for the whole team!"
Hendey was a three-time Women's Collegiate Wrestling Association (WCWA) All-American and two-time national finalist for the Tornado, winning a national title her senior year in 2015. She helped the Tornado win four national titles in two years as King won the NWCA National Duals championship and WCWA national championship in 2014 and 2015.
She also has competed for Team USA as she is a three-time Team USA National Team member and three-time Senior Pan-American medalist. In 2016, Hendey won the U.S. Open.
Hendey graduated from King in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Business with an emphasis on Sports Management and minor in Coaching.
