King takes conference sweep over Chowan

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University softball team swept Conference Carolinas foe Chowan University behind their high powered offense. King hit three home runs on the day, taking game one 9-0 and game two 11-3.

KING HIGHLIGHTS GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Chowan put runners on first and second with back-to-back two-out singles. However, Turner got a groundout to end the threat.
  • Foster started the bottom of the first with a single before a pair of walks loaded the bases.
  • King scored one run in a Hawk miscue, but left the bases loaded.
  • The score remained the same until the third inning when Million ripped a single up the middle that scored Miller and Turner.
  • Foster drove in Million with a single before a Samantha Helms single up the middle scored two and gave King a 7-0 lead.
  • The Hawks loaded the bases in the fourth, but Turner got a lineout and strikeout to end the frame.
  • It looked as through King would end the game in the fifth inning with runners on second and third with one out. However, Chowan got out of the inning to send the game to the sixth.
  • Turner started the sixth with a single up the middle before Miller gave King the 9-0 win with a home run to center field.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
  • Foster started game two with a leadoff single and scored on a Thompson double, giving King a 1-0 lead after the first inning.
  • Lauren Lawson extended the King lead to 2-0 when she ripped a double to left center in the second inning that scored Haag.
  • Nikole Counts retired the first six batters she faced, but the Hawks' leadoff batter in the third inning reached on an error.
  • She later scored on a sacrifice bunt before another Tornado miscue allowed another run to score, evening the tally at two.
  • A pair of walks and single from Miller loaded the bases in the third inning.
  • Sams then ripped a home run over the left field fence to give the lead back to King.
  • Lawson was hit by a pitch and scored on a Peyton Day double to give the Tornado a 7-2 lead.
  • Chowan scored an unearned run in the top of the fifth before the Tornado ended the game in the bottom of the frame.
  • With two outs and two runners on, Turner ripped a home run to left field.
  • Miller followed with a single and Million then doubled down the left field line. The ball was misplayed, allowing Miller to score and giving King the 11-3 win.
