BRISTOL, Tenn. –
Nikole Counts had a spectacular week in the circle for the King University softball team, leading the Tornado to a 4-2 record. She was selected Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday when the league announced their awards.
Counts closed the week with her best performance of the season, tossing her first shutout of the year. In the contest she only allowed two hits over seven innings in a 4-0 win over Davis & Elkins College. She posted five strikeouts in her seventh complete game of the year.
Earlier in the week she defeated Concord University, allowing four runs, one earned on five hits in seven innings. On Saturday she tossed the first six innings against Newberry College and allowed only two runs as the game went to extra innings. In three starts this week she owned a 1.35 ERA while going 2-0 with 16 strikeouts.
This marks the first time in her career that Counts has been selected Conference Carolinas Pitcher of the Week.
King is in action again on Tuesday afternoon when they take on regional rival Tusculum University at 1:00 p.m.
