Carson, Lawson finish runner-up at the MLF National Championship

WAGONER, Okla. – The King University bass fishing duo of Donavan Carson and Landon Lawson had a big final two days at the Abu Garcia College Fishing National Championship, moving from 30th after day one to eighth after day two. The tandem closed with another big day and were the leaders until the last group to weigh in topped their weight total of 40 pounds, three ounces, giving the Tornado tandem a runner-up finish.

LOCATION: Fort Gibson Lake; Wagoner, Okla.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Carson and Lawson started the final day with a weight total of 25 pounds, 10 ounces and were in eighth place.
  • They caught four fish, one short of the limit for a total of 14 pounds, nine ounces.
  • Lawson nealry pulled in another big one, but lost it at the boat.
  • That brought their total to 40 pounds, three ounces, and put them in the top spot.
  • The rest of the top 10 came and weighed in, and the Tornado duo stayed in the top spot until the final group and day two leaders, Kaden Proffitt and Cason Ragsdale of East Texas Baptist University came in.
  • They weighed in their limit of five for a total of 14 pounds, one ounce, brining their total of 43 pounds, eight ounces.
  • Carson and Lawson started the tournament in 30th place after catching four fish for a total of nine pounds on the fist day.
  • They then had a big day two, catching five fish for a total of 16 pounds, 10 ounces.
FOR THE FOES
  • Third place went to Bailey Bleser and Nathan Doty of McKendree University with 14 fish that weighed in at 39 pounds, seven ounces.
UP NEXT
  • The Tornado are in action again on April 22-23 at the Bassmaster College Series on Norfold Lake in Mountain Home, Ark.
