EMORY, Va. — The King University Softball team split a midweek doubleheader with nonconference opponent Emory & Henry Wednesday afternoon, dropping game one 3-2 before winning 6-5 in the second game of the day.

KING HIGHLIGHTS
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- Haylee Dye started the game off by reaching on a throwing error by the second baseman before being retired on a fielder's choice that allowed Samantha Helms to reach base.
- Turner then stepped up and blasted her sixth home run of the season, putting King up 2-0.
- Rikkelle Miller would then single and steal second but would be stranded.
- The Wasps scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first to cut the lead to 2-1.
- After tying the game in the third, Emory & Henry took the lead in the fourth inning on a solo home run off the bat of Kendall Varn.
- They would hold on, as the Tornado got three base runners in the final three innings but were unable to score the tying run.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- In the second game, it was the Wasps who struck first, scoring twice in the bottom of the first.
- King would take the lead in the top of the third, scoring their first run on a Helms single that scored Tinsley Thompson.
- After Thompson and Carly Turner moved up a base on a wild pitch, Camryn Haag ripped a double into the right-center field gap, allowing both runs to score and making it a 3-2 lead for King.
- In the fourth inning, King scored another run, as Thompson reached base on a fielder's choice, advanced to second and third on wild pitches before scoring on a throwing error by the catcher to make it 4-2.
- The Tornado scored two more in the fifth, with Lilly Million hitting an RBI single before Leonard singled, scoring Million and making the King lead 6-2.
- Emory & Henry would not go down quietly, as they scored three times in the bottom of the sixth, but Nikole Counts was able to escape by inducing a groundout to the shortstop.
- After King went down in order in the seventh, the Wasps got a leadoff walk, but were unable to convert the game-tying run, as Counts recorded two strikeouts and got a groundout to end the game.

- Julia Street was 1-for-3 for the Wasps, with a pair of RBI in game two.
- Mackenzie Williams went 3-for-7 at the plate.
- Avery Adkins pitched in both games, throwing seven innings in game one before throwing the final two innings of the second game.

- King returns to Conference Carolinas play this weekend, facing UNC Pembroke on Friday and Francis Marion on Saturday in road contests.
