BRISTOL, Tenn. – After a month where she was a perfect 9-0,
Samara Chavez of the King University women's wrestling team was selected as the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Region 2 Wrestler of the Month.
Chavez, a sophomore from Arlington, Texas, won both the East Stroudsburg Open and Eagle Madness, recording wins over ranked opponents in the championship matches of both tournaments. At the East Stroudsburg Open, she defeated #5 Isabella Frezzo 12-2, while at Eagle Madness she won an 8-0 decision over #3

Chavez dominated the competition throughout the month, outscoring opponents 51-2 through eight matches, with three wins. All three pins came in the first period, two of which came in less than 20 seconds.
The Tornado are back on the mat Sunday when they compete at the North Central Open, with wrestling scheduled to start at 10 a.m.
