BRISTOL, Tenn. –
Deniz Aytun of the King University women's tennis team and
Alex Sodre of the King University men's tennis team have been named as the Conference Carolinas players of the week. This is the second conference level award of the season for Aytun, while Sodre is receiving the honor for the first time.
In two matches Saturday, Aytun went 4-0 combined, with 2-0 records in both singles and doubles play. Against Brescia, Aytun won in straight sets over Deimante Krickaite, before winning in three sets over Milligan's Kaitlyn Barrett. She also won a pair of matches in doubles play, teaming with
Mishka Koricinova at the top flight to win 6-3 over Brescia and 7-5 over Milligan.
Sodre also went 4-0 on the weekend, with singles wins over Brescia's Gemano De Carvalho and Milligan's Carter Rigsby, both of which were by 6-2, 6-3 scores. In doubles action, he teamed with Mat Vieria for a pair of wins.
The Tornado are done until the spring portion of their season, which gets underway March 8, when they host Erskine to kick off conference play.
