BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's soccer team opened their season with a stout test, defending South Atlantic Conference champion Catawba College. The Tornado fought back to even the score in the first half, but didn't have the second counter, falling to the Indians 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Catawba jumped on the attack early, taking five shots in the opening 15 minutes.
- Erin Foster came up with a pair of saves for the Tornado and one of the Indian shots in the right post.
- However, after Foster's second save, the ball found the foot of Sharon Mayes in the middle of the frame with a wide open net. She slid the ball over the line to give Catawba a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute.
- King countered in 17th minute when Isabella Carr ripped a shot to the bottom right corner of the net, but it was turned away by the Catawba goalkeeper.
- Veronica Roach had a shot sail wide in the 17th minute as well before Bella Crisci broke through for the Tornado.
- She took a shot from 30 yards out and played it over the keeper to even the tally at one.
- The tie was short lived, however, as the Indians responded 48 seconds later.
- Helen Summerell found Hannah Dunn who found the back of the net, regaining the lead for Catawba at 2-1.
- Foster came up with six more saves in the final 25 minutes of the half to keep the score at 2-1 Catawba at the break.
- Catawba controlled play in the second 45 minutes, taking 13 shots and holding the Tornado without an attempt.
- The Tornado defense stood tall in the second half, only allowing three shots on frame, all were turned away by Foster.
- King couldn't find the back of the net as Catawba took the 2-1 win.

- King took four shots in the game, all in the first half with two being on frame.
- The Tornado earned one corner kick in each half for a total of two on the day.
- Foster made eight saves for the Tornado.
