Crusaders score late goal to top Tornado

BELMONT, N.C. – The Tornado conceded a goal in the 75th minute and were unable to answer as they fell to Belmont Abbey College 1-0 Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Belmont Abbey controlled the pace early, recording a shot on goal in the 6th minute that Parsons steered away. They picked up another shot four minutes later but it sailed wide of the net.
  • The Tornado started to mount their offense in the 34th minute when Ruben Laureano took a shot that was saved, then Mate Lengyel took the rebound and forced the keeper to knock the ball out of bounds, resulting in a King corner kick.
  • Off the corner, Lengyel got a shot off, which was blocked, ending the King scoring chance.
  • In the second half, the Crusaders finally broke through, converting a 75th minute scoring opportunity to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Belmont Abbey's defense stood tall in the final 15 minutes, not even allowing a shot for the Tornado while recording six shots of their own, one of which was on goal.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Ben Delisle was one of three Tornado to record two shots on the night, giving him a team-leading 27 on the season. He also leads in shots on goal (18) and is second in goals to Lengyel, who has a pair on the season.
  • Collin Parsons finished the match with six saves, which is his second-most of the season. In three matches this season, he has recorded 15 saves and has 22 in his Tornado career.
FOR THE FOES
  • Sander Herlofsen was the offensive hero for Belmont Abbey, recording the lone goal on five shots, with two shots on goal. It was the second goal of the season and the seventh of his career.
  • Ben Knust picked up his first shutout of the season, making three saves to earn the win.
