King drops season-opener at Tusculum

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The King University men's soccer team started slow in their season-opener at Tusculum University. The Tornado fell behind in the first half, and tried to comeback in the second half. However, the deficit was too much to overcome as King fell to the Pioneers 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tusculum controlled play in the first half, outshooting the Tornado 8-1.
  • The Pioneers also earned five corner kicks while holding King without one.
  • Dalton Gammon made a pair of saves in the 13th minute for the Tornado, but he couldn't make the third save as Harry Easterby gave Tusculum a 1-0 lead.
  • Five minutes later, Charles Johnson came up with the first opportunity for the Tornado, but his shot sailed high.
  • Tusculum added another goal in the 21st minute, again coming off of a corner kick. Jean Pierre Vital placed his shot into the upper right 90, giving the Pioneers a 2-0 lead.
  • King couldn't turn the field as the score remained 2-0 after the first 45 minutes.
  • The Tornado broke through in the 63rd minute when Ruben Laureano found the back of the net, cutting the Tornado deficit in half.
  • However, the Pioneers answered in the 65th minute on a goal from Michele Di Miele, extending the lead to 3-1.
  • Ben Delisle had a pair of opportunities in the 73rd and 79th minutes, but both were turned away.
  • Those were the only opportunities the Tornado had the rest of the way as King fell 3-1.

  • King posted six shots, including three on goal and earned one corner kick.
  • Gammon made two saves and Collin Parsons posted one save.

  • Tusculum took 13 shots, seven on goal and added five corner kicks.

  • The goal for Laureano was the first of his career.
