RALEIGH, N.C. – The King University men's wrestling team competed in their first tournament of the season Sunday and had a pair of Tornado place sixth in their weight classes.
Christian Small, who is ranked fifth in the nation at 141 pounds, placed sixth while
Demetri Teddlie also finished sixth at 149 pounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Small started his day with a fall over Christian Colman of Duke before dropping a narrow 8-7 decision. He bounced back with a 1:19 pin of teammate Cam Fentress before winning three straight decisions to put himself in the fifth-place match.
- Teddlie dropped his first match of the day before receiving a bye in the first wrestle back round. He then won a 11-6 decision before pinning Matthew Williams in just 48 seconds. After receiving a win via medical forfeit, he won a major decision over South Atlantic Conference Carolinas foe Trevor Mansfield of Newberry, setting up a battle for fifth place, where he dropped an 8-2 decision.
- Rylee Billings had a solid day at 125 pounds, picking up a 12-8 win over Malik Hardy of The Citadel and a 6-2 win over Newberry's Zach Shupp before falling to Evan Carrigan of Newberry via 8-2 decision.
- Tony Washington picked up a pair of wins, both of which came via fall. After losing his opening match, he pinned Zach Macy of Seton Hill in 4:45 before pinning Limestone's Brad Creech with just seconds left in the first period.
- At 184 pounds, Freddie Garcia opened his day with a second period pin of Jacob Lesley of Newberry before earning a narrow 4-3 win over Matthew Engel. His day would end with a pair of losses to division 1 opponents.
- Dallas Boone faced three division 1 foes on the day, earning a 13-1 major decision win over Shawn Broadway of Seton Hill.

UP NEXT
- King wrestles their first home dual of the season on Saturday when the 24th-ranked Tornado square off with 22nd-ranked Newberry College. The dual is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. in Kline Hall.
- The Tornado then host the Tornado Open starting at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday in the Student Center Complex.
