Tornado sweep Barton for sixth straight win

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University softball team extended their winning streak to six games with a sweep of Barton College on Monday afternoon. The Tornado took game one 9-1 before coming back to win game two 3-2.

SERIES HIGHLIGHTS

  • Summer Hayes led the Tornado with four hits, including one double while scoring three runs on the day.
  • Hannah Riddle also scored three runs on the day to go along with three hits, including two triples. She also extended her hitting streak to 22 games. The streak is believed to be the longest in school history.
  • Kay Brokering drove in five runs in game one on two hits, including a pair of doubles.
  • Jenna Burnett drove in a pair of runs and collected two hits on the day.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Riddle ripped a one-out triple to get things started in the bottom of the first inning for the Tornado. Brokering was next up and grounded out, but drove in Riddle, giving King a 1-0 lead.
  • In the third inning, Brokering ripped a double that scored Katie McCann to highlight the three-run inning that put the Tornado ahead 4-0.
  • Brokering delivered once again in the fourth inning with a bases loaded double to left center that scored all three runners to give King a 7-1 lead.
  • Riddle ended the contest with a two-run triple in the fifth inning, giving the Tornado the 9-1 victory.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • The nightcap was a pitcher's duel beween Makayla Meeks of Barton and King's Emma Hughes.
  • The Bulldogs got to Hughes first, scoring a pair of runs in the fifth inning. Sierra Hearp ripped a two-out double that scored a pair, putting Barton ahead 2-0.
  • King answered in the bottom of the inning with three runs, two coming on a Bulldog defensive miscue that would have ended the inning.
  • Burnett then scored Brokering, giving King the 3-2 lead.
  • Rachel Farmer then entered in the circle for the Tornado and only allowed one hit over the final two innings to give King the 3-2 victory.

  • Taylor Martin posted a pair of hits in game one and Taylor Freeman had two hits for the Bulldogs in game two.
