Tornado split Senior Day doubleheader with Emmanuel

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University softball team hosted Emmanuel College Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas matchup. Each game of the doubleheader proved to be a pitchers dual as the Tornado fell in game one 1-0, but bounced back to take game two 2-0.

SERIES HIGHLIGHTS

  • Summer Hayes and Kaycee Casteel led the Tornado with two hits each on the day.
  • Leslie Odom, Emma Hughes, and Rachel Farmer led the Tornado pitching staff and each performed well for King.
  • Kay Brokering and Hanna Adams each recorded a hit on the day for the Tornado.

GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS

  • The lone run in the contest came in the top of the first inning when Meredith Reece of Emmanuel scored on a wild pitch to give the Lions a 1-0 lead over King.
  • The Tornado bats struggled against the stellar pitching of the Lions as Emmanuel gave up zero hits in the contest.
  • King was able to get a couple runners on base via walks and hit batters, but could not advance the runners.
  • Despite the no-hitter thrown by the Lions, Odom pitched very well for the Tornado as she only gave up one run and four hits in the game. Odom struck out five batters as well.
  • King fell to Emmanuel 1-0 in a pitcher's duel in game one.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Tornado struck first in game two when Jenna Burnett brought Katie McCann home.
  • King scored again in the fourth inning when Adams doubled to left center to bring Hayes home from first base and give the Tornado a 2-0 lead.
  • In the seventh inning, the Lions had runners on second and third with one out, but a unassisted double play made by Hayes gave King the 2-0 victory over Emmanuel.
  • Hughes pitched the first six innings for the Tornado recording four strikeouts and not giving up a run. Farmer enter the game in the seventh inning to record her fifth save of the season.

  • Erin Harden threw a no-hitter in game one of the doubleheader for Emmanuel.
  • Meredith Reece, Noelle Petty, and Sydney Driver each recorded two hits on the day for the Lions.
