Long ball leads King to wins over West Virginia Tech and Coker

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The King University softball team finished their weekend with a pair of wins, defeating West Virginia Tech 13-1 and Coker College 5-2. Jenna Burnett had a big day for the Tornado, accounting for five hits and driving in five.

HOW IT HAPPENED WEST VIRGINIA TECH

  • The Tornado wasted no time getting on the board as Riddle and Davidson ripped back-to-back home runs in the first inning.
  • King added five runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two-out, two-run double from Bailey Deason, giving the Tornado a 7-1 lead.
  • Riddle ripped her second home run of the game in the third inning, stretching the Tornado lead to 10-1.
  • The Tornado capped the 13-1 win with three runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run Burnett single.
  • In the circle, Raven Allender only allowed one run on three hits, tossing all five innings.

  • Olivia Morey went 1-for-1 and drove in the Golden Bears' lone run.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME COKER

  • Burnett drove in Riddle in the first inning, giving King the early lead.
  • The Cobras grabbed the lead in the top of the second with a pair of unearned runs.
  • That lead stood until the fourth inning when a Burnett home run to center field evened the tally.
  • The score remained the same until Brokering broke the tie with a three-run home run in the sixth inning, giving King the 5-2 lead.
  • Leslie Odom made that standup as she sat down the Cobras in order in the seventh inning, giving King the 5-2 victory.
  • Odom had a stellar outing, striking out a career-high 10 and allowing only two unearned runs on six hits.
