Tornado come back to defeat Barton

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's tennis team earned another Conference Carolinas win on a windy Saturday at the King Tennis Courts. The Tornado took two of the doubles matches against Barton College and clinched the 5-4 win with a trio of singles wins.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Haley Maloney and Catherine Vezey got the Tornado on the board with an 8-1 win over Casey Utley and Whitney Hamilton at No. 2 doubles.
  • The Tornado then took the lead when Alyssa Salazar and Nia Gilliam defeated Dana Kelly and Rebecca Lamm 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.
  • In singles play, Barton took wins at the top three flights to take an advantage over the Tornado.
  • Alyssa Salazar then got the Tornado back on the board with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Utley at the fifth flight.
  • Maloney evened the dual at 4-4 with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Lamm at No. 6 singles.
  • The dual came down to No. 4 singles where Ashley Salazar defeated Hamilton 7-6 (7-1), 6-0, giving King the 5-4 victory.

UP NEXT

  • King will be in action again on Tuesday when they host the University of North Georgia at 11:00 a.m.
  • Barton next hosts Southern Wesleyan University on Friday.
