Tornado edge Lions in conference battle

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's tennis team defeated Emmanuel College in a tight fought Conference Carolinas dual. The Tornado earned a 5-4 victory over the Lions after recording two doubles wins and tallying wins in the final three singles matches.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Katya Cerny and Haley Maloney grabbed a win for the Tornado at No. 2 doubles over O'Connor and Kiderlen 8-2.
  • At No. 3 doubles Alyssa Salazar and Nia Gilliam defeated Muesse and Kirby 8-2 to give King the 2-1 advantage going into singles play.
  • Ashley Salazar earned a 6-4, 6-4 victory over O'Connor at No. 4 singles.
  • At the No.5 singles Alyssa Salazar sailed to a 6-1, 6-1 win over Emmanuel's Kirby.
  • Haley Maloney clinched the win for the Tornado at No. 6 singles over Emmanuel's Morris 6-1, 7-5.
