King falls to Mount Olive

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's tennis team took on the University of Mount Olive in a Conference Carolinas dual on Friday at the Bristol Racquet Club. The Tornado played the Trojans tough, but Mount Olive took the 7-2 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Mount Olive took all three doubles points, but the Tornado made it close as Catherine Vezey and Haley Maloney dropped an 8-6 decision to Paulina Delgado and Jennifer Byrd at No. 2 doubles.
  • At the third flight, Nia Gilliam and Alyssa Salazar fell to Mulan Bartz and Nicole La Chappelle 8-7 (7-5).
  • In singles play, Maloney defeated La Chappelle 6-2, 0-6, 10-7 at the sixth flight.
  • At No. 5 singles, Alyssa Salazar topped Mariana Gamboa 6-0, 6-4.
  • Gilliam took the first set from Alejandra Hernandez 6-3 at No. 2 singles. However, Hernandez came back to take the final two sets 6-1, 6-0 for the win.
  • Ashley Salazar also dropped a three set match, falling to Bartz 6-2, 3-6, 11-9 at No. 4 singles.

  • King takes on Barton at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the King Tennis Courts.
