Tornado fall at #23 Kentucky Wesleyan

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The King University men's basketball team returned to the court on Saturday at 23rd-ranked Kentucky Wesleyan College, and the homestanding Panthers grabbed the lead early before the Tornado came back late in the first half. King grabbed the lead early in the second frame, the Panthers came back to take the contest 78-65.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Panthers hit a pair of three-point baskets before C.J. Good got King on the board with a triple of his own.
  • King trailed 10-3 before Hunter LeVeau scored five straight points, and Mack Owens pulled the Tornado within 10-9 four minutes in.
  • The Panther lead grew to 21-12 following a triple, but James Scales responded with five straight points and Mikquell Jackson drilled a triple to pull the Tornado back within one.
  • Good gave King a 25-24 lead midway through the frame, but it was short lived as the Panthers responded with a 5-0 run.
  • Kentucky Wesleyan held the lead for the rest of the frame, but Good nailed a triple inside the final minute to make the halftime score 38-37 Panthers.
  • Derick Pope started the second half with a bucket and Good gave the Tornado a 42-38 lead with another triple.
  • However, the Panthers scored eight straight points to take a 48-44 lead three minutes in.
  • Kentucky Wesleyan opened up a 10 point advantage five minutes in, but the Tornado went on a run and pulled within 56-54 following a LeVeau triple with 10 minutes remaining.
  • That was as close as King would get, however, as the Panthers scored six straight points, regaining their 10-point advantage.
  • The Panthers ended up taking the contest 78-65.
  • LeVeau led the Tornado with 21 points and five rebounds while Good followed with 15 points.
  • Jackson and Owens chipped in with 10 points apiece. Owens also snared a team-high seven rebounds.

FOR THE FOES

  • Ken-Jah Bosley led the Panthers with 22 points and Jordan Jacks added 16.
  • Devin Langford and C.J. Blackwell rounded out four scorers in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively.
  • Jacks added 11 rebounds for the double-double.

  • King returns to Conference Carolinas play on Tuesday when they travel to take on North Greenville University at 7:30 p.m.
  • Kentucky Wesleyan takes on Oakland City on Wednesday night.
