BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's tennis team was back in action when they played host to Lees-McRae College in their final home contest of the season. The Tornado fell down in doubles play and were not able to come back in singles, falling to the Bobcats 8-1.
To start things off, the doubles team of Katya Cerny and Nia Gilliam fell at number one to Samantha Wohlers and Hilary Lutz 8-0. At number two doubles, Amanda Huffaker and Haley Maloney dropped their match to Caroline Green and Amanda Chapman 8-1.
King sent out Gilliam at number one singles, who fell 6-3, 7-6(7-5) in a tough fought match. The bright spot for the Tornado came when Cerny won at number two singles. Cerny was victorious by a score of 7-5, 6-4, 10-8.
Maloney, Huffaker and Pearl Annan dropped their matches as King fell to Lees-McRae 8-1.
The Tornado will be back in action on Saturday, April 18 when they will travel to Cullowhee, N.C. to take on Western Carolina University. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
