Tornado drop tight match to #1 Pfeiffer

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Playing their second ranked team in four days, the King University men's soccer played a solid 90 minutes against top-ranked team in NCAA Division II. The Tornado fell to #1 Pfeiffer University 3-0 on Saturday at Parks Field, but the Falcons scored their final to goal in the last 10 minutes.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Conference Carolinas leader in goals, Nathan Regis got Pfeiffer on the board early in the first half as he took a pass from Santi Moar who was on the right corner and found Regis in the front of the net where he beat the keeper in the 19th minute.
  • The Falcons continued to pressure the Tornado in the first half, but goalkeeper Kari Sveinsson made three saves in the frame to keep King within striking distance.
  • The pressure didn't let up in the second half as Pfeiffer ripped 18 shots in the second half, but only six were on target and four were turned away by Sveinsson.
  • The Falcons broke through for an insurance goal in the 82nd minute when Regis took a pass from Martim Galvao from the right and tapped the shot into the open net to make it a 2-0.
  • Regis added his third of the game with three seconds remaining to make the final score 3-0 in favor of the Falcons.
  • Sveinsson made seven saves for the Tornado.
  • Pfeiffer outshot King 31-9, including 10-4 in shots on goal.
  • The Falcons had a narrow 5-4 advantage on corner kicks.

FOR THE FOES

  • The hat trick for Regis gives him 20 goals on the year.
  • Tomas Correa made four saves to post the shutout for the Falcons.
