Box Score MISENHEIMBER, N.C. – The King University men's soccer team faced another tough road test on Saturday afternoon at Pfeiffer University, and the Falcons used three first half goals to take the Conference Carolinas contest. The Tornado got tallies late in the first half, and early in the second, but I wasn't enough as Pfeiffer took the game 4-2.
Pfeiffer (10-4, 6-2 CC) started the game on the right foot as Roberto Soares netted the game's first goal in the 15th minute. Niko Andrade sent a free kick into the box where Soares beat the keeper to the low right hand corner to put the Falcons ahead.
The Tornado (5-7, 3-3 CC) answerer with a flurry of opportunities in the 10th minute, but couldn't produce any goals as Faber Bickerstaffe and one shot sail wide, and another blocked.
Play went back and forth for the next 10 minutes before the Falcons broke through again. Martim Galvo slid a pass to Paco Cortez who buried his shot into the top left corner to extend the lead. In the 44th minute, Soares tallied his second goal of the game, taking a cross from Nathan Regis and placing the ball into the open net.
However, the Tornado answered just a minute later as Eli Carrasco ripped a free kick into the upper right 90 with 47 seconds left to make the score 3-1 at a halftime.
It didn't take King long to pull within one in the second half has Carrasco placed a corner kick into the box that couldn't be handled by the Falcon defense and ended up in the back of the next to make the score 3-2 in the 47th minute.
Nevertheless, the Pfeiffer pressure picked up as the half went on, and they added an insurance goal in the 68th minute when Galvao found Luke Janes in the middle of the box where he beat the keeper to make it a 4-2 Falcon lead.
King had two more chances to score as Bickerstaffe had a shot blocked in the 73rd minute and Ryan Cobain had a header blocked in the 74th minute as the Tornado fell to Pfeiffer 4-2.
The Tornado will host Southern Wesleyan University on Wednesday. Kickoff from Parks Field is slated for 3:00 p.m.
