King defeats OCU in route to title

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – The King University women's wrestling team continued their season Saturday completing the Patriot Duals just like they finished Friday. Once again, the Tornado came out of the day without a loss defeating the University of the Cumberlands (B) 44-2, #4 Campbelsville University 33-9 and #2 Oklahoma City University 32-13.

King (6-0) opened the day facing Cumberland's B team. Regina Doi started everything off for the Tornado at 101 pounds with a win over Arelys Valles 7-1. Breonnah Neal won by forfeit at 109, followed by Ashley Iliff pinning Alexandria Campbell at 116 pounds and Sarah Hildebrandt pinning Alyssa Greenleaf at 123 pounds. Rachel Hale continued for the Tornado with a win over Ashley Potter 10-0 in the 130 weight class. Jessi Kee, at 136, defeated Olivia Cepak 10-0 while Forrest Molinari pinned Kayla Petit at 143. Lorrie Ramos and Brenda Perez both pinned their competitors at the 155 and 170 classes respectively. To complete the dual for King was Jacqueline Williams at 191 who defeated Rebecka Winton 13-4.

King then faced #4 Campbelsville and Marina Doi got the Tornado off to a perfect start defeating Cassidy Ferrell 10-0. Neal defeated Michelle Lomas at 109 pounds 8-4 for her second win of the day while Haley Augello beat Kasey Ricketts at 116 pounds. Hanna Grisewood beat Shelby Hall 7-1 and Kayla Miracle was defeated by Hildebrandt 4-3 at 130 pounds. Kee, at 136 pounds defeated Rosemary Flores 8-4 before Amanda Hendey posted a win over Hanna Hill. Julia Salata defeated Kaitlyn Hill at 170 pounds before Tiaira Scott of Campbelsville won at 191 pounds by forfeit.

In the final dual of the day, the most anticipated dual of the day, King defeated #2 Oklahoma City for the first time in the programs history. Neal defeated Cody Pfau, the number one wrestler at 109 pounds, 15-10. Augelo then defeated Shelby Morrison 16-4 at 116 while Grisewood beat Rachel Archer at 123 pounds 11-0 putting the King lead at 12-5. Hildebrandt won by forfeit before Hendey posted a win at 143. Ramos and Salata completed the dual with wins in their matches at 155 and 170 pounds respectively, helping the Tornado defeat Oklahoma City 32-13.

King will be in action next on October 24 and 25 when they travel to Oklahoma City to partake in the Cliff Keen duals.
