SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The King College women's tennis team returned to action Wednesday at Converse (S.C.) College and posted a 7-2 win to snap a two-match losing streak.
King owned a 2-1 lead after doubles thanks to wins at No. 2 by Karissa King (Rockwood, Tenn.) and Sarah Anderson (Bristol, Tenn.) 8-2 and the No. 3 duo of Eden Sherrod (Kingston, Tenn.) and Brittany Freund (Bluefield, W.Va.) 8-3.
Virginie Brioschi (Geneva, Switzerland) helped with a 6-1 and 6-1 No. 1 singles' decision. King won her No. 2 singles' match in three sets, 6-4, 1-6 and 6-4. Nerece Stoltz (Witbank, South Africa) added a No. 3 singles' point with a 6-4 and 6-3 victory. Freund and Sherrod added singles' wins after the match was decided.
The Lady Tornado, now at 7-6 on the season, will welcome Milligan (Tenn.) College for a 2 p.m. match on March 23. King suffered a close 5-3 loss at Milligan on Sept. 28, 2010.
Wednesday's match was the first time King had played since March 2 against Queens (N.C.).
