Offense propels King to victory at Southern Wesleyan

CENTRAL, S.C. – The King University women's soccer team had their offense erupt on Wednesday night when they took on Conference Carolinas foe Southern Wesleyan University. Miranda Smith scored twice in the first 10 minutes before King added four goals in the second half to take the contest 6-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Smith didn't waste any time getting the Tornado on the board as she took a pass from Kendyl Baird in the 10th minute and found the back of the net to put King up 1-0.
  • Only 16 seconds later Paula Doran found Smith who laced another shot into the back of the net to stretch the King lead to 2-0.
  • In the second half Smith dished out her Conference Carolinas-leading fourth assist of the year when she played a ball to Rachel Thorpe in the who extended the King lead to 3-0 in the 61st minute.
  • Doran dished out her second assist of the night on a corner that Lindsay Curtis finished, giving King a 4-0 lead in the 68th minute.
  • In the 83rd minute, Hulda Sigurdardottir added another for the Tornado, this one coming unassisted.
  • Baird tallied her second helper of the contest in the 88th minute when she played a ball to Kara Garrett who buried her shot into the back of the net, giving King the 6-0 win.
  • In the contest, the Tornado ripped 31 shots, putting 20 of them on frame.
  • Nicole Dagher stopped all four shots that came her way for her first win and shutout of the season.

FOR THE FOES

  • Southern Wesleyan placed four of their five shots in the contest on frame.
  • Grace Taylor accounted for three shots, including two on net.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • With her assist, Smith still leads Conference Carolinas and ranks seventh in all of NCAA Division II with four helpers on the season. The nation's leaders have five assists.
  • Smith, Garrett and Sigurdardottir all have three goals on the season, ranking them third in Conference Carolinas.
  • The goal for Curtis was her second career tally, with her other goal coming a season ago in a win over Belmont Abbey College.
  • The six goals in the game for the Tornado mark the most goals they have scored in a contest since last year when they posted six in a win over North Greenville University.
  • The shutout for Dagher was her first of the season after posting three last year. She now has six clean sheets in her career.
