Stroud got his coaching career started at J.L. Mann High School in Greenville, S.C. where his teams went 42-4-1 in two seasons, including a perfect 26-0 conference record. He led them to a state title in 2012 and that team finished seventh in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) rankings. In 2013, J.L. Mann reached second in the NSCAA rankings and over the two years, Stroud had 10 players sign to play at NCAA Division I or Division II schools.
He then was an assistant coach a Lincoln Memorial University for two years, working with both the men's and women's teams. Stroud coached the goalkeepers for both squads, helping one of the goalkeepers earn first team All-South Atlantic Conference honors and lead the league in save percentage. Over the two years at Lincoln Memorial he helped coach nine men and nine women to all-conference honors.
A season ago, Stroud joined Migalarese's staff at King, helping the Tornado finish fifth in Conference Carolinas where they posted a 4-4-2 league mark. King finished the season with an overall record 5-8-3 and dropped a tough 0-0 decision on penalty kicks in the Conference Carolinas Tournament quarterfinals.

In his time there he helped the Paladins to Southern Conference championships in 2007 and 2010 as Furman advanced to the NCAA Tournament second round in 2007.
