Mendoza, Dickenson Earn Player of the Week Awards

BRISTOL, Tenn. - On Tuesday, the Conference Carolinas announced the winners of the women's wrestling and baseball weekly awards. King's Melanie Mendoza and Corbin Dickenson were named the women's wreslter of the week and baseball pitcher of the week, respectively.

Mendoza, a senior from Selma, California, won her first weekly award after her performance on Tuesday evening against Emory & Henry, that helped the Tornado come away with a win to clinch a share of the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas regular season title. She locked up a cradle in the first 10 seconds of the match and secured a win by fall in 22 seconds over Natalia Sanchez at 117 pounds.

Dickenson, a sophomore from Piney Flats, Tennessee, earned his first win of the season, defeating Davis & Elkins in five innings of work. In those five innings, he struck out 10 and held the Senators to a .125 batting average. He only allowed one run on two hits.

The King women's wrestling will be back in action tonight as they conclude the regular season at Newberry. The Tornado baseball team will take to the diamond this weekend as they travel to Barton to open conference play.
