Bristol, Tenn. – The King University women's basketball team battled through a competitive first half before falling to undefeated UVA Wise 81–64 on Tuesday evening inside the Student Center Complex. The Tornado (0–3, 0–0 Conference Carolinas) showed flashes of offensive rhythm and defensive hustle, but the Cavaliers (3–0, 0–0 SAC) pulled away in the second half behind efficient shooting and balanced scoring.
First Half
King came out strong, edging UVA Wise 16–15 in the opening quarter.
Alayna Smith set the tone early with six rebounds and 10 points, while
Aliyah Hawkins knocked down two three-pointers to keep the Tornado in front.
The second quarter saw momentum swing back and forth, with four ties and multiple lead changes.
Mary Elizabeth Fox added six points and two steals, and
Samantha Lee chipped in a three-pointer and a pair of free throws. Despite the effort, UVA Wise took a 35–34 lead into halftime.
Second Half
UVA Wise found its rhythm in the third quarter, outscoring King 23–13 behind strong play from Caroline Mullins and Madison Looney, who combined for 40 points on the night. The Cavaliers shot over 52 percent in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
King continued to fight, with Fox finishing with a team-high 16 points and eight rebounds. Lee added 10 points and three boards, while Hawkins and Smith each contributed nine and 10 points respectively. The Tornado bench added 32 points, showing depth and energy throughout the game.
