Tornado fall to Braves in four sets

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's volleyball team fell to the UNC Pembroke Braves on Friday night inside the Student Center Complex. The Tornado dominated in the first set before the visitors took the next three competitive sets.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Cameron Martin opened the match with a kill with an assist from Amaya Hall.
  • King quickly got to a 8-4 lead, forcing UNC Pembroke to take a timeout.
  • A five-point from the Tornado late in the set, helped by kills from Gracia Love and Chloe Clayton, extended the lead to nine points at 19-10. King would finish the first set at 25-15.
  • The early part of the second set was back and forth but UNC Pembroke had a five-point run to take the lead. King fought back to tie the match at 19 off an ace from Clayton.
  • King fell 23-25 in the second set as the Braves tied the match.
  • Both Ella Kiser and Isabel Krick had four kills in the second set. While Clayton and Kiser each had a service ace.
  • King held a slim lead for most of the third set but a late four-point run by UNC Pembroke tied the set at 22 before the Braves closed it out.
  • The third set was tied five times and had two lead changes for the most of both categories in a single set during the game.
  • UNC Pembroke controlled the fourth set. The Tornado attempted a comeback as they were down by as many as nine points late in the set before closing the gap to four, but it wasn't enough.
  • Kiser had back-to-back aces during the comeback effort.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Ella Kiser had a triple-double with 24 assists, 15 digs, and 10 kills. She also added three aces and two block assists.
  • Gracia Love had a match-high 13 kills and 22 digs for her third double-double performance in a row. She also had 31 receptions.
  • Amaya Hall had 19 assists, and Chloe Clayton added two block assists.
 
UP NEXT
The Tornado will honor their senior class prior to tomorrow's match against Francis Marion. Senior Day celebrations will begin just prior to the 2pm start time.
