BRISTOL, Tenn. –
Ray Berry,
Garret Huffman and
Conner Hyatt of the King University baseball team have been named College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District.
Berry, a senior from Chilhowie, Va., made 13 starts on the mound for the Tornado, going 3-6, with a 5.77 ERA. In 64 innings pitched, he had a total of 50 strikeouts, and held opponents to a .278 batting average. April 6 at Young Harris, he threw a season-high seven innings, allowing just two earned runs. He recorded a season-high eight strikeouts April 13 at Chowan. This is the second time in his career he has earned Academic All-District honors.
Huffman, a junior from Raphine, Va., started 43 of the 44 games he played in this season, hitting five home runs, six doubles and driving in 24 runs, in addition to being perfect in stolen base attempts. He had a season-high three RBI April 21 against UNC Pembroke, a game where he also had a season0high two hits. This is his second consecutive season being named Academic All-District.
Hyatt, a junior from Johnson City, Tenn., played in 43 games, making 41 starts. He had seven home runs and 10 doubles, both of which were second-most on the team. He was 14-of-20 in stolen base attempts and led the team in hit by pitches with eight. This is his second year being named to the Academic All-District team.
Established in 1952 and selected by College Sports Communicators, Academic All-America is the longest running and premier award for athletic and academic success across championship college sports at all NCAA levels, the NAIA, two-year colleges and Canadian institutions. Teams are announced year round and amplified by CSC member colleges, universities, and conferences on a wide local, regional, national, and even international scope.
