BRISTOL, Tenn. –
Garret Huffman hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth to lead the King University baseball team to a 6-5 nonconference win over Carson-Newman University Tuesday afternoon. It was the first time King has beaten the Eagles since a 12-6 win on Feb. 11, 2020.

KING HIGHLIGHTS
- Michael Starrs and Huffman both had home runs on the game, with Huffman's being the game-winning two-run shot.
- King used six pitchers, with Mitchell Kahlenberg picking up the win after throwing 1.2 innings in relief.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Tornado scored four runs in the bottom of the first, with Misael Garcia getting things started with a ground-rule double, which allowed Truman Roper to score the first run of the game.
- After Chad Evans scored on a wild pitch, Michael Starrs hit a home run to left field, putting the Tornado up 4-0.
- The Eagles got two of those back in the second, picking up a two-RBI single.
- Carson-Newman then scored in the third, before tying the score at four in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly.
- Nathan Borchardt was hit by a pitch with one out in the ninth, with Jake Witcher coming in as a pinch runner.
- Garret Huffman then stepped up to the plate and on the first pitch he saw deposited a home run to left center field, putting King in front 6-4.
- The Eagles added a run in the ninth, but Mitchell Kahlenberg came up with a pair of strikeouts to end the game, with King taking the 6-5 nonconference win.
FOR THE FOES
- James Denten and Harrison Travis had extra base hits for the Eagles, with Denten picking up an RBI.
- Logan Floyd and Aiden Gibson both had a pair of RBI on the day for Carson-Newman.
