BRISTOL, Tenn. -- Mikhail Pocknett of the King University men's basketball team has been named Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year, and was voted Second Team All-Conference Carolinas. Pocknett is the first Freshman of the Year for King men's basketball since Logan Lyle in 2011-12.
Pocknett, a freshman from Wilmington, N.C. had a historic season for the Tornado, averaging 17.9 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game. He had 10 double-doubles, including in both of King's games in the Atlantic Casualty Conference Carolinas tournament.
He scored a career-high 33 points on Nov. 16 at Emory & Henry, and scored 20+ points 11 times on the season. He was named Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Month in January, and was named Conference Carolinas player of the week twice. He is currently leading NCAA Division II in overall scoring by freshmen, and is second in points per game with 17.0. Overall, he ranks 11th in the country with 3.52 offensive rebounds per game.Â
