Tornado fall in exhibition game at UT Chattanooga

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – The King University played an exhibition game at Division I UT Chattanooga.
 
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: UT Chattanooga 75 – King 34
LOCATION: McKenzie Arena, Chattanooga, Tenn.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
  • The Mocs scored first, before Le'Aije Ellington hit a three-pointer to give King a one point lead.
  • King held UT Chattanooga scoreless for the next two and a half minutes.
  • Sarah Thompson would score the last five points for the Tornado in the opening frame with a three-pointer and a pair of free throws.
Second Quarter
  • Mariya Williams hit a free throw at the 7:08 mark and a turnaround jump shot as the clock expired for King's only points in the quarter.
Third Quarter
  • The Tornado were again held to single digit scoring with Ellington hitting a three-pointer and a jump shot. Alaya Smith scored on her only attempt.
Fourth Quarter
  • Thompson hit two shots from beyond the arc to score 6 of King's 13 points in the final quarter.
 
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
  • Sarah Thompson was the only Tornado in double-digit scoring with 11 – nine of those points came from beyond the arc.
  • Mariya Williams had a game-high nine of the team's 23 rebounds, including six on the defensive end of the court.
 
FOR THE FOES
  • Four Mocs scored in double-digits: Caia Elisaldez led with 15 points, including a perfect 6-6 at the charity stripe.
  • Karsen Murphy had nine rebounds and was a perfect 3-3 from three-point range.
 
UP NEXT
The King University women's basketball team will close out their season-opening road trip with a trip to Salisbury, N.C. to face Livingstone on Saturday. Tip off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
