MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The King University women's volleyball team got back in the win column after beating the Chowan Hawks in fourth sets in a highly competitive match on Friday night.
THE BASICS
FINAL SCORE: King 3 – Chowan 1 (25-20, 26-24, 23-25, 30-28)

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- King opened the match with five straight points and scored 11 of the first 12 to take a dominate lead.
- Zephanie Snyder had three kills in that time and a total of five in the opening set. Princess Emma Oluwa and Amaya Hall each had a service ace.
- The Tornado would maintain the lead through a comeback attempt from the Hawks late in the set, but Oluwa would seal the set victory with a kill with an assist from Hall.
- Synder also recorded 1.5 blocks on the frontline.
Second Set
- Snyder continued her momentum as her kill earned King the first point of the second set.
- Chowan would take the lead and hold it for a majority of the set, but King would keep the score close.
- With the set tied at 24 apiece, the Tornado then scored twice with an attack error on the Hawks and a service ace from Snyder to seal the 26-24 set 2 victory.
- Synder would finish the set with 5 kills while Oluwa added 6.
Third Set
- Both teams traded points the entirety of the third set. Chowan had an 18-13 lead before King scored six of the next seven points to tie the set at 19, including an ace from Riley Nelson and a kill from Hall.
- With the score tied at 23, Chowan got back-to-back points to avoid a King sweep.
- Synder had another strong offensive showing in the set with the team-high 4 kills.
Fourth Set
- King brought their momentum back by scoring the first six points. Oluwa had back-to-back service aces and Izzy Krick had a kill to get the Tornado on top.
- Chowan would keep it competitive as they took the lead at 14-13. King would retake the lead at 20-17 on an attack error from the Hawks.
- The back and forth would continue into extras. The Tornado would win the set and the match as the hawks had a bad set.
- In the 30-28 set victory, Snyder and Nelson each had 4 kills. Hall recorded all but one of King's 13 assists. Oluwa added her two aces early in the set.
- There were 10 ties and 4 lead changes in the final frame.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
- Zephanie Snyder was the top Tornado both offensively and defensively on the front line. She totaled a match-high 18 kills and a team-high 1.5 blocks.
- Princess Emma Oluwa added 16 total kills as well. Amaya Hall had a double-double with team-high 37 assists and team-high 14 digs.
- King totaled 9 aces – Oluwa with 4, Hall with 3, Snyder and Riley Nelson each with one.
FOR THE FOES
- Rosa Lynn Collier led the Hawks offense with 14 kills. Diana Rodriguez had a match-high 23 digs
- Anna Holcombe recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 18 digs.
