Abigale Jayne had 12 kills and three blocks Saturday afternoon as the King University women's volleyball team dropped a nonconference matchup to the University of Charleston, 3-0 Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
- It was back-and-forth early, with the Tornado finally starting to pull away after taking a 6-5 lead on a kill by Bailey Fersner, who got another quick kill to make it 7-5.
- The Tornado lead would eventually get to 15-11 before Charleston scored four straight points, tying the set at 15.
- The Golden Eagles would take a narrow 18-17 lead, but three consecutive King points saw them take a 20-18 lead.
- King had a 21-20 lead, but Charleston scored the final five points, winning set 1 25-21.
Second Set
- Charleston scored the first four points of the set before Jayne recorded a pair of kills, making the score 5-2.
- The Golden Eagles would stretch the lead to 11-5 before King scored three consecutive points, with Riley Nelson getting a kill, along with a block by Izzy Krick and Hailee Blankenship to pull King to within 11-8.
- Charleston quickly stretched their lead, eventually pulling in front 22-10.
- King would score three straight points, starting on a block by Jayne and Krick, before Krick got a service ace and Nelson combined with Jayne for another block, making the score 22-13.
- The Tornado continued to work their way back, eventually pulling within 24-16, but Charleston got the final point of the set, winning 25-16 and going ahead 2-0 in the match.
Third Set
- The Tornado took the first two points of the set, including a Harless service ace.
- After King took a 4-2 lead, the Golden Eagles would score seven points in a row, taking a 9-4 lead before Jayne came up with a kill to stop the run.
- Charleston did extend their lead to 13-8, but again the Tornado came storming back, this time getting to within 13-11.
- While the Tornado were able to keep the score close, they were unable to overcome the Golden Eagles, dropping the set 25-19, and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jayne's 12 kills is a new season high. She also finished with three block assists.
- Faith Morse had 12 digs to lead the back row.
- Harless handed out 15 assists, with Lydia Buchanan contributing nine.
FOR THE FOES
- Sage Bearnson led all players, finishing with 16 kills along with four digs.
- Suzan Agterberg had 16 assists, while Abby Avila added 15.
- Riley Hoff was the other Golden Eagle to record double digit kills, finishing with 11, as well as 13 digs for the double-double.
UP NEXT
- The Tornado will continue nonconference action Tuesday night when they host Bluefield State University inside the Student Center Complex.
- Charleston will play at Davis & Elkins College Tuesday night.
