King drops matchup to Mount Olive

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University women's volleyball team dropped their Conference Carolinas match Friday night, 3-1 to the University of Mount Olive. Hailee Blankenship and Gracia Love led the Tornado with nine kills each.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Set
  • After consecutive attack errors by the Trojans tied the score at six, Mount Olive scored four points in a row, taking a 10-6 lead.
  • The Tornado then responded with four of their own, including a kill from Love and a service ace from Blankenship.
  • Mount Olive would then go ahead 14-12, at which point the Tornado erupted to score seven of the next eight points, taking a 19-15 lead.
  • The Trojans got back to within 21-18, but King finished the set scoring four of the final six points, with Abigail Belcher picking up two kills while teaming with Love for the closing block, taking the set 25-20.
Second Set
  • Mount Olive scored the first four points, en route to taking an 8-3 lead.
  • After the lead reached 12-6, the Tornado started to close the gap, scoring four of the next five points to pull to within 13-10.
  • A kill by Love and a Mount Olive attack error saw the Tornado get to within 18-16, but the Trojans would score five of the next six, opening up a 23-17 lead.
  • The Tornado then got a Trojans service error to pull to within 23-18, eventually using a Blankenship kill to get to 24-19 before the Trojans took the set, 25-19.
Third Set
  • The Trojans took an early 7-4 lead before a Kara Miller kill and Kylie Love service ace brought King within 7-6.
  • After Mount Olive scored four of the next five to take a 11-7 lead, the Tornado scored three of their own, getting to 11-10.
  • King eventually tied the set at 12 after a setting error by Mount Olive, but the Trojans would retake the lead, stretching it to 18-14.
  • The Tornado worked their way to within 20-18, but the Trojans scored the final five points, taking the set 25-18.
Fourth Set
  • After falling behind 4-1 early, the Tornado came storming back, scoring five straight points to take a 6-4 lead, with Miller getting a pair of assisted blocks during the scoring run.
  • Mount Olive then scored seven of the next eight, taking a 11-7 advantage.
  • The Trojans lead eventually reached 20-11, before the Tornado caught fire and scored five of the next six points, three of which came off Zephanie Snyder kills, pulling to within 20-15.
  • Mount Olive would eventually take a 24-16 lead, at which point Bailey Fersner got a kill before the Trojans took the set 25-17, and the match 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Blankenship and G. Love led the Tornado with nine kills each, with Blankenship adding 11 kills and a pair of service aces.
  • Katie Harless finished with 20 set assists, while K. Love added eight.
  • Harless also led the Tornado in digs with 15 while Jersey Wines had 14.
FOR THE FOES
  • Kaitlyn Landis led the Trojans attack, recording 11 kills, with Ashlyn Stone adding 10.
  • Morgan Prots had 19 digs, with Neza Pec adding 11.
  • Jenna Myer and Lindsay Reid both handed out 19 assists.
UP NEXT
  • The Tornado will play a pair of matches Saturday afternoon, starting at 1 p.m. against Young Harris University before facing the University of Charleston at 5 p.m.
  • Mount Olive will play at Lees-McRae College Saturday.
