Ana Luciano of the King University women's wrestling team and
Michael Mays of the King University men's basketball team have been chosen as the Delta Blues Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Student-Athletes of the month for February.
Luciano, a senior from Kissimmee, Fla., qualified for the NCWWC national championships on Feb. 18, going 4-0, including a championship win over fourth-ranked
Viktorya Torres. Luciano opened the tournament by pinning Stephanie Castro of Lincoln Memorial before rattling off three consecutive wins via tech fall to claim her third consecutive NCWWC regional championship.
Mays, a senior from Bristol, Tenn., averaged 27.2 points per game during the month, including a pair of 37-point performances. His first 30+ point game of the month came on Feb. 7, at Belmont Abbey when he dropped 37 points. He would then score 34 points in consecutive games on Feb. 13 and 15 before scoring 37 in a must-win game against Southern Wesleyan on Feb. 22. He shot 92.5 percent from the free throw line and 43.6 percent from beyond the arc.
