King falls at hot-shooting Mount Olive

MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The King University women's basketball team took to the road to take on the University of Mount Olive on Saturday evening. The Trojans posted their best shooting performances of the season as King fell 83-52.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Period
  • Mount Olive got off to a hot start, shooting 57.1 percent and scoring 28 points in the opening 10 minutes.
  • The Trojans scored 11 straight points to take a 13-3 lead midway through the opening period.
  • Tori Smiley made the first field goal for the Tornado to end the run with 4:11 remaining in the quarter.
  • Jaden Potts connected from long range before Mount Olive scored the final four points of the quarter to take a 28-10 advantage into the second period.
Second Period
  • The Tornado offense picked up in the second period, shooting 58.3 percent.
  • Mount Olive opened the period with four straight points before a Le'Aije Ellington three-point play cut the King deficit to 32-13.
  • An Alexa Gramann three-point play and Jhayda McKinney triple cut into the deficit, however the Trojans answered with a basket.
  • King pulled within 15 points numerous times, but each time Mount Olive had an answer as the Trojans led 45-28 at halftime.
Third Period
  • King scored the first four points of the period, to pull within 45-32, but Mount Olive responded with an 8-0 run to stretch the lead back to 20 points.
  • Mount Olive later scored the final six points of the period to take a 63-38 lead into the fourth quarter.
Fourth Period
  •  Mount Olive extended their lead in the final period, taking the contest 83-52.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Ellington led King with 16 points, five rebounds and three assists.
  • Smiley followed with 10 points while Gramann chipped in with nine points.
  • Ashley Allen grabbed six rebounds.
FOR THE FOES
  • Mount Olive shot a season-best 50.0 percent from the floor and were led by 26 points from Reagan Hune.
  • Haleigh Crews added 22 points while Laila Anderson accounted for 16 points.
  • Maleiya Hill Chipped in with 11 points and 10 assists while Tiandra Tucker grabbed 13 rebounds.
