BRISTOL, Tenn. –
Amarius Beasley and
Jaylen Bernard of the King University men's basketball team, as well as
Alexa Gramann,
Jaden Potts and
Jhayda McKinney of the King University women's basketball team have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District teams.
Beasley, a junior from Harvest, Ala. who is majoring in Business Administration, has played in 26 games this season, averaging 3.1 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. His season-high of 14 points came Nov. 30 at Lees-McRae, a night where he shot 6-of-9 from the field.
Bernard, a sophomore from Coral Springs, Fla. Who is majoring in Business on the Finance track, has started in 14 of the 25 games he has played this season, averaging 8.8 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game. He has scored in double figures seven times, with a season-high 20 points Monday night against Emory & Henry.
Gramann, a sophomore from Jefferson City, Tenn. who is majoring in Exercise science on the Kinesiology track, has appeared in 25 games this season, with 24 starts. She is averaging 5.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game for the Tornado. She has 10 games this season where she has scored in double figures, including a 20-point performance on Jan. 10 at North Greenville, a night where she posted a double-double with 10 rebounds. She has twice been named to the Provost List, and in spring 2022 was named to the President's List.
Potts, a sophomore from Kingsport, Tenn., has made 19 starts for the Tornado, with 5.5 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game, as well as 1.2 steals per game. Her season-high of 18 points came on Jan. 24 at Converse, where she finished with six rebounds and four assists for King. She is majoring in Elementary Education and volunteers as a Skills Trainer at TNT/habitat for Humanity.
McKinney, a junior from Sevierville, Tenn., has played in all 27 games this season, making 16 starts. She is averaging 4.7 points and 2.1 rebounds per game, while shooting 87.5 percent from the free throw line. Her season-high of 17 points came in the season-opener against Limestone, the first of four times she has scored in double figures, including back-to-back 10-point performances against Lees-McRae and Converse last week. She is majoring in Exercise Science on the Kinesiology track, and is a two-time member of both the Dean's List and the Provost's List.
The 2022-23 Academic All-District® Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes men's basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All- America® honorees will be announced in mid-March.
