Tornado drop pair to FSC, #5 UNG

DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The King University softball team dropped a pair of contests on Monday afternoon. The Tornado tried to comeback in the opening game, but fell short against Florida Southern College 4-2. In the second game, King fell to fifth-ranked University of North Georgia 13-0.

KING HIGHLIGHTS GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
  • The Tornado had two runners on in the second on hits from Thompson and Bradlie Warner. However, the Mocs got out of the inning with a groundout.
  • A pair of Florida Southern singles in the third gave the Mocs a 1-0 lead.
  • Thompson reached to start the fourth inning and stole second, however, she was stranded there.
  • Back-to-back singles from Campbell and Haylee Dye put two Tornado runners on in the fifth with one out.
  • However, the Mocs again got out of the inning, this time with a pair of flyouts.
  • Consecutive singles around an error added another Florida Southern run in the fifth before Kelsey Peck ripped a two-run home run to give the Mocs a 4-0 lead.
  • Thompson and pinch hitter Erin Foster both reached to start the sixth and it looked like the Tornado would get on the board.
  • However, Florida Southern got the next three outs to end the inning.
  • In the seventh, Dye started a rally with a one-out walk before Carly Turner ripped a double.
  • Miller then drove in one with a single before Turner scored on a wild pitch.
  • However, the Mocs got the final out, handing King the 4-2 defeat.

  • Peck led the way with two hits, including the home run that drove in two.
  • Skyler Ralst and Jessica Bryson added two hits each as Bryson scored twice.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
  • North Georgia jumped ahead in the top of the first inning, scoring four runs.
  • Olivia Sinquefield drove in a pair with single up the middle around run-scoring singles from Mallory Parker and Sydney Blair.
  • North Georgia extended the lead to 6-0 in the third inning, scoring runs on consecutive groundouts.
  • The Tornado started the bottom of the inning with back-to-back hits from Murray and Campbell in the third, but couldn't push a run across.
  • The Nighthawks tacked on four runs in the fourth inning, two on a double from Marycille Brumby and two more on doubles from Sinquefield and Blair to take a 10-0 lead.
  • Sinquefield hit a three-run home run in the fifth to give the Nighthawks a 13-0 lead.
  • The Tornado couldn't comeback in the bottom of the inning as North Georgia took the contest 13-0.
