BRISTOL, Tenn. – The King University men's wrestling team came back from a deficit against Belmont Abbey College to take the Conference Carolinas opener 23-22 on criteria. The dual turned as
Ashtan Hendricks pinned second-ranked John Carayiannis, starting a 22-0 run for the Tornado. King then held off three straight Crusader wins at the end of the dual and took the win on criteria.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey took a 10-0 lead behind a pin at 125 pounds and a major decision at 133 pounds before the dual turned for the Tornado.
- In the second period, Hendricks came up with a reversal that turned into a pin, defeating second-ranked Carayiannis in 4:48 at 141 pounds.
- Demetri Teddlie followed with a tough 3-1 victory over Skylar Caban at 149 pounds before the Tornado took the lead.
- At 157 pounds, Bo Perkins got a late takedown to earn a 13-4 major decision over Tyler Pepe, putting the Tornado ahead 13-10.
- Seventh-ranked Trent Mahoney took a second-period pin in 4:47 over Dylan Crawford to give King a 19-10 lead.
- Vincent Galang extended the Tornado lead to 22-10 with a 9-6 victory over Caleb Moore at 174 pounds.
- Belmont Abbey then came up with a win in the final seconds at 184 pounds before a pin at 197 pounds pulled the Crusaders within three points.
- The Crusaders took an overtime win at 285 pounds, evening the dual at 22-22.
- The winner was decided by the most points scored in decisions, and the Tornado came out ahead to win the dual 23-22.
