Hailee Blankenship of the King University women's volleyball team has been named Conference Carolinas and Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) women's volleyball player of the week. It is the second time in the last three weeks that she has won both awards.
Blankenship, a senior from Goode, Va., started all 14 sets for the Tornado, averaging 4.36 kills and 3.07 digs per set. She posted a double-double in all three matches, and set a career-high in kills Friday in a win over Converse, finishing with 24 along with 13 digs. Saturday against Emmanuel, she had 21 kills, along with 17 digs and a block assist. Monday night in the regular season finale, Blankenship went for 16 kills, 13 digs, a block assist and three service aces in a five-set win.
This is the second time this season that Blankenship has earned these honors, and the second time in the last three weeks she has swept them.
King qualified as the 10 seed for the Conference Carolinas women's volleyball championship, and will open the tournament Sunday afternoon when they take on ninth-seeded Chowan University at 12 p.m. A win and the Tornado would then face fourth-seeded UNC Pembroke at 3 p.m. Both matches will be hosted by UNC Pembroke.
